YJCC celebrates 25 years in Township of Washington
It is with great pride and humility that the Bergen County YJCC acknowledges its twenty-fifth year in the Township of Washington. In 1987, a group of dedicated, committed and forward-looking individuals pledged to fulfill the dream of building a Jewish community center in the Pascack Valley. They gave of their expertise, resources, talents and time to see to it that the YJCC achieve its mission to develop, enrich and strengthen our families, our Jewish identity and our Jewish community. The debt of gratitude we owe them is repaid every day—when the YJCC educates our young, introduces us to Israel, supports the most vulnerable among us and helps us make friends for life.
As we celebrate our Silver Anniversary, it is an apt time to again thank our past leaders, not only for being “present at the creation,” but for their ongoing commitment and support that is so vital to this organization. In addition, we recognize our new leaders and acknowledge the tasks before them. With vision and dedication they, too, will make their mark on our Jewish community.
Although we may no longer be watching “Cheers” in prime time or “walking like an Egyptian” as we did in 1987, we still rely on the YJCC to be a place to connect with our community, support our values and celebrate our heritage. May we rise like the Giants (Super Bowl winners 1987 and 2012), going from strength to strength. May the dreams we have today, starting with an exceptional new playground for our nursery school, propel us to excellence so that in the future we will be proud to say we were part of the YJCC’s second twenty-five years in the Township of Washington.
