The Bergen Sharks is a 100+ swimmer competitive swim team run by the Bergen County YJCC. The team competes in the New Jersey JCC/YM-YWHA Swim League. Members and non-members of the Bergen County Y, ages 6-17, are welcome. In addition to competing against other teams in the league, individuals will learn, practice and refine competitive racing starts, turns and strokes under the instruction and supervision of experienced swim coaches, all of whom are former competitive swimmers. A dry land training program run by trainers from the Health and Wellness Department helps cross-train the swimmers and educate them on the correct way to work out and use gym equipment. For comprehensive information about the Bergen Sharks, go to www.bergensharks.com Pre-Competition Program The YJCC Pre-Competition program serves as a transition from learning to swim to competition. It also enables those who have been introduced to the four competitive strokes to improve their technique to the swim team level, along with learning the basics of starts and turns. Pre-Comp runs more like a team practice than a swim lesson, so swimmers get a sampling of the swim team experience.
