Virtual reality as a way of escaping your reality
After a hard day at work and dealing with tons of tasks and deadlines, the annoying boss and all those needy colleagues, you finally get back home. When you think you can relax with your family at last, you hear your baby crying. The moment you step into your house, your wife brings you a pile of unpaid bills and mortgages. To rub salt into the wound, your wife tells you that her sister, who has always disliked you, has just left her husband and is going to stay with you for a few days.
After all of this, there is not a single person who wouldn’t wish he could just run away. But luckily, you don’t need to abandon your family, because there are ways that can help you calm down and give you a little peace of mind until you come up with solutions for your problems.
Thanks to the development of technology, you can get some devices that can take you to some other carefree reality whenever you have a need for that and bring you back home once you feel relaxed. One of those devices is called Oculus Rift, a virtual reality system that enables you to completely immerse yourself in a virtual world. So, when you feel stressed out, you can simply pick up your VR device and take a walk inside a virtual casino for example. In a virtual casino you can walk through exciting corridors, talk with other players and enjoy all the games you could play if you were in a real casino. You can even earn some money because you can connect to a casino via the internet. Once you are finally relaxed, you can take off the VR device, feeling energized to deal with bills, mortgages and your sister-in-law.
Virtual reality worlds
You don’t need to use a VR device only when you are under stress – you can use it whenever you want. We all have some unfulfilled wishes and dreams or something that we haven’t dared to try, and all of this can be realized in a virtual world. You just turn on your VR system and you instantly become a superhero, a professional athlete or a Formula 1 driver. Everything is possible for at least some limited time.
Effects of VR on our senses
VR devices are made in such a way that makes you almost unable to differentiate between the VR world and the real word. An institute in Minnesota has done a study of how virtual reality devices can trick our senses. Two groups of people took part in the study. One group stayed in a room with a variable temperature and the other group stayed in a room with a constant temperature. Both groups wore VR devices and played a desert driving game. Afterwards, both groups were asked if they’d noticed any temperature changes and both groups answered affirmatively. This means that as long as there is a strong emotional reaction produced by one of our senses, all other senses believe that the reaction is based on reality.
Future technological developments will surely bring even more engrossing VR worlds. So, don’t let your problems get the better of you – give yourself some me time and unwind in a perfect VR world.
